Hamilton Road

Location

The Hamilton Road neighborhood runs for a long stretch in central London. It’s located just Southeast of the downtown core. Hamilton Road runs straight through the middle of it, which is where the neighborhood gets its name. It’s starts at Adelaide Street and suns East all the way to Veterans Memorial Parkway. The bottom border of the neighborhood runs along and follows the Thames River. A large part of this neighborhood has easy access for commuting outside of London where as the other end of this neighborhood has quick and easy access to downtown, making this stretch of neighborhood great for professionals focusing on their career. 

Neighborhood

This large neighborhood has a delightful mix of residential and commercial, as well as a lot of nature and green space down along the Thames River. There are a couple of shopping plazas within this neighborhood, but there are also small commercial and industrial pockets throughout, especially along Hamilton Road and Clarke Road. 

Because Hamilton Road is a large neighborhood that spans across a large part of the city, there is a a large range of diversity when it comes to the kinds of housing featured. This neighborhood hosts single family homes of various sizes, three story walk ups, townhomes, apartment buildings, and duplexes. The majority of the homes do make up single family homes, and the builds range from the late 19th century to post-World War II builds. 

This neighborhood is lucky enough to also have the Hamilton Road Community Association, which is a program that is designed to provide resources and assistance for residents, as well as increase the quality of life within this neighborhood. The Tree Trunk Tour is one of the most unique offerings of this neighborhood, and is a fun tourist attraction for London. This tour features over twelve custom tree trunk carvings that are absolutely beautiful pieces of artwork. Each carving has its own story. They’re located throughout the community, which is a great way for people to see the Hamilton Road neighborhood. The idea for this tour came from small business owners within the neighborhood that got together for coffee and wanted to do something different and unique for London. 

Schools

Because the Hamilton Road neighborhood spans across a large part of London, there is a wide range of schools that fall under this district, depending on what side you live on. Within the actual boundaries of this neighborhood there are a number of schools: Fairmont Public School, St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School, Tweedsmuir Public School, Ealing Public School, London Christian High, Trafalgar Public School, Lester B Pearson School for the Arts, B. 

Davison Secondary School. Because these schools fall within the neighborhood boundaries, many of them are within walking distance for some families, which some parents find an important part of a neighborhood. This neighborhood has a large range of different kinds of schools, including a school for the arts, a Christian high school, French immersion, public, and even Catholic schools.

Amenities

Because this neighborhood is quite large, there are a good number of great amenities within the boundaries of the neighborhood. Not only that, but there are plenty of amenities that are close by to the neighborhood as well. The Western Fair District is one such example. It’s close to the borders of the Hamilton Road Neighborhood, and is a great place for people to catch a horse race, or spend a night of fun at the casino, or enjoy one of the many shows that are hosted at the Western Fair District. 

The Hamilton Road neighborhood hosts a lot of businesses and shopping that are completely unique to London. The Pole House is a fitness studio that teaches pole and aerial silks work. It also hosts private parties like bachelorette parties and birthday parties. BATL is an axe throwing business that hosts leagues, parties, and even has time for walk-ins. BATL is an incredible experience unlike any other in the city. Yardigans Estate Liquidation Services is the place to find inexpensive…well, everything. They buy furniture, tools, toys, and so much more. If you’re moving and you’re not sure what to do with all of the stuff you have but don’t want to move, you simply call Yardigans. They’ll give you a free estimate for your stuff, buy it from you so that you don’t have to worry about it, and then sell it to the public for cheap! Alicia’s Fine Foods is London’s European food market. They have a deli, European groceries, cheese, a cakery, and even homemade European-inspired meals, such as perogies, schnitzel, Czech dumplings, soups, and more. Atlantic Sea Fish Market is known as the place in London to get the best fresh fish. It also has other imported food items as well. The Wedding Shoppe Canada is actually Canada’s largest selection of wedding supplies and favors and they are located right here in London in the Hamilton Road neighborhood. It has everything from party decor, gifts for the happy couple, favors, and so much more. Van Luyk Greenhouses and Garden Centre is an incredible year-round garden center in London. It’s massive and can offer you expert advice if you have any questions or concerns about your plants. They also offer incredible quality products and have exceptional customer service. 

Hamilton Road neighborhood has an incredible assortment of local restaurants with delicious food that you’ll want to try at least once: King of the Pigs, Mexicactus Bar & Grill, Lo Nuestro Latin, Grampa and Gramas Chip Wagon, Casa Cubana, Lucky Restaurant, Gusto Pizza & Wings, and Continental Cork. 

The Hamilton Road neighborhood is incredible for those who love living active lifestyles. There are a number of centers and parks that are great for outdoor activities, sports, and staying active. The Bob Hayward YMCA has a pool, a full gymnasium, saunas, a cardio floor, a fitness center, drop-in programs for kids, a tree house jungle gym, and amazing programs. The Silverwood Park features an arena, an outdoor community pool, and a wading pool. The BMO Centre has six indoor fields that can be used for lacrosse, football, and soccer. Saint Julien Park is a great play for the athletically inclined to visit as it has a baseball diamond and a soccer field. It also has a basketball court, a playground, the River’s Edge Skatepark, and the River’s Edge Disc Golf, which has a 27-hole disc golf course. Meadowlily Trail has beautiful views, is great for birdwatching, and 4kms of walking trails that are great for family hikes. Vauxhall Park is a beautiful hidden gem that has a play structure, sings, paved paths, a baseball diamond, a picnic shelter, and lots of green space. Kiwanis Park has a skate park, is lovely for walking through, has beautiful art structures and a cute little bridge, as well as large shady trees and open green space. South Branch Park Hiking Trail and the Adelaide Hiking Trail are other great hiking places in this neighborhood for families to enjoy together. 

Pottersburg Off Leash Dog Park is within the family and is the perfect place to bring the family dog and let it roam around and get all of its energy out. 

Golfers will love that the River Road Golf Course is also in this neighborhood. East Park London is full of family fun. It has water slides, golf, mini golf, go-karts, a climbing wall, and even an arcade. It’s the perfect place to make lasting memories.
