Location

Old East Village (OEV) is a historic neighbourhood that is now part of central London, just east of the downtown core. Its boundary lines go from Adelaide Street to the train tracks past Kellogs Lane and from the train tracks below the Western Fair District all the way up to the train tracks under McMahen Park. The neighbourhood is only an eight-minute drive to the Downtown core, thus providing its residents with a small community feel amongst the busyness of the city.

Londoners highly regard the OEV as a small community with a ton of history. For this reason, there has been a concerted effort to uphold the area and encourage it to thrive. It has been an Ontario Heritage Conservation District site since 2006 which preserves its rich past through conservation. OEV is a diverse neighbourhood, with residents of varying ages and heritages. It is a small and welcoming area that oozes charm and a sense of community. 

The housing in the Old East Village varies. Because it is a historic part of town, there are single detached homes for sale as old as the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The area has seen a rise in new housing developments. New apartment buildings and single detached homes make up the majority of the properties for sale in the area. With the diverse range of housing ages, sizes, and types of homes, the price range is also diverse.

The neighbourhood itself is vibrant and full of life. Residents who live in the OEV are proud of where they live, and the sense of community is undeniable. There is even an Old East Village Community Association that seeks to promote activities that enhance the quality of life for residents, maintain the heritage of the neighbourhood, advocate for the neighbourhood with the city and host social activities to grow a sense of community within Old East Village. With an array of small but notable and promising businesses based in the OEV, there has been an influx of potential buyers looking to purchase a home. 

Schools

There are a number of elementary and secondary schools that service this district, including Catholic, French Immersion, and Public schools. While there are no schools that fall within the boundaries of this neighbourhood, H.B Beal Secondary School, Lord Roberts Public School, and CCH are all just outside of Old East Village and is within walking distance for some of the neighbourhood families.

Amenities

For outdoor activities, residents can head to Boyle Park. Here, they can enjoy accessible pathways, basketball and tennis courts. Also located in the neighbourhood is Western Fair District. Here, residents can attend the Farmers Market every Saturday which features a ton of local vendors and suppliers. On top of the weekly market, the Western Fair District hosts multiple amazing events throughout the year, including the Food and Wine Show, and the Western Fair in the fall. They also have Yuk Yuk’s comedy club and horse racing at the Western Fair District throughout the year. 

Old East Village is packed with amenities and entertainment. The small community of locally owned businesses in the area is thriving. On top of the Western Fair District, families and individuals can head to Junction Climbing Centre, The Factory, and even Gateway Casinos for fun and entertainment. The area is booming with local restaurants, cafes and bakeries such as the London favourite organic establishment The Root Cellar, 10Eighteen Coffee Bar, True Taco, Fire Roasted Coffee Co., Nova Era Bakery, Momo’s At The Market, Shmokey’s BBQ, Tony’s Italian Restaurant, Artisan Bakery etc. Residents can head to London Brewing Co-operative for a cold pint of beer and a tour through the brewery. Local businesses other than food establishments are thriving in the OEV. The services, clubs and retailers located in the area include Life of Leisure Surf + Social Club, Queen of the Nile Body Sugaring, Palace Theatre, London Curling Club, Illbury + Goose and many more! 

Weekly essentials are all close by for residents of this neighborhood. At Adelaide and Oxford street, Shoppers Drug Mart, The Laundry Cafe, and SUNRIPE Freshmarket are there for groceries, home necessities, and pharmacy related items. At Quebec Street and Oxford Street residents can find a Real Canadian Superstore, Wine Rack, LCBO, gas station, and a holistic pet care centre. 

On top of all of this, residents of Old East Village are just minutes away from the downtown core where there is incredible unique shopping boutiques, some of the best dining in the entire city, incredible nightlife and entertainment, and the Covent Garden Market.
