White Oaks

Location

White Oaks is a large residential area in the south end of London, Ontario. Home to around 20,000 residents, the neighbourhood is multicultural in its nature and a well-known part of the city. The borders lie at Southdale Avenue (north), White Oak Road (west), Wellington Road (east) and Exeter Road (south). The district is rather far from the city centre, but it is booming with commercial instalments and residential subdivisions. Residents who live here have full access to every amenity they may need, including shopping, dining and entertainment. The proximity to major roads in London such as Wellington Road, Wharncliffe Road and Commissioners Road allows residents to get to the rest of the city with ease. In addition to this, there are several LTC bus stops sprinkled throughout the neighbourhood.

Amenities

White Oaks Mall was built in 1973 and has since become a substantial commercial hub for the entire city. There are tons of shopping and dining options in this area. For home essentials within the neighbourhood there is Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Farm Boy, Food Basics, No Frills, Giant Tiger, gas stations, banks, Canadian Tire, WalMart, Best Buy, walk in clinics, and Bulk Barn. For shopping fun, White Oaks Mall has a ton of great stores, outside of the mall there is MEC, Canada Computers, Chapters, David’s Bridal, LCBO, Beer Store, Old Navy, Plato’s Closet, Dollar Tree, Pier 1, Tommy Hilfiger, Marks Work Warehouse, and Skechers Factory Outlet. For delicious places to eat there is QDOBA, Popeyes, Fionn MacCools, Chop Steakhouse, Earls, Dairy Queen, Mucho Burrito, Earls, Five Guys, Menchies, Swiss Chalet, Jack Astor’s, Boston Pizza, Tony Romas, The Keg, Archie’s Seafood, and Pizza Hut. 

Both the South London Community Centre and South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre are located in the area. These centres strive to create a stronger sense of community in this end of town. Residents can feel at ease in their neighbourhood with a consistent sense of safety for their children. In addition to the centres, London Public Library Jalna Branch is available to residents. For entertainment there is the South London Community Pool, Landmark Cinemas 8, and a skate park. 

Residents can head to many parks for green spaces and time outdoors. Cheswick, Ashley Oaks, Optimist and White Oaks Park are all in proximity to the subdivisions. White Oaks Park is no doubt the largest in the area and boasts plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities. Accessible paved paths, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, swing sets and play structures offer endless entertainment for kids and families in the summer months. The White Oaks Park also has an amazing hill for tobogganing in the winter months.
